"I might paint pictures through my lyrics, but I can't promise it's always going to be pretty where they ride off into the sunset. Life just doesn't happen like that most of the time."
After a decade-plus absence from recording, singer-songwriter Brien Travis is getting back in the saddle with his forthcoming album Little Incredible Life, due for release summer '23. The record was recorded and produced at West District Studios and contains all new material. It is the first new music Travis has released since 2009's Tales Of Lazy Wednesdays.
Southern born and raised, Travis grew up in a small town in middle Tennessee, playing piano for his church congregation hymnals at the age of 6. As a teenager, he started to produce "basement tapes" for high school friends, then branched out into the coffee-house scenes of the South in the late 90's. After stealing the show as the opening act at the renown Riverbend Music Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee, his song "Boy In The Corner Café" was the number one most-requested song on college radio for three months, garnering him several awards after releasing his first independent album. He would record several independently released albums before 2006's cover songs concept record Cul De Sac, reviewed and praised by Rolling Stone and Keyboard magazines as one of the best cover projects of that year. A deal with Sony failed to launch after "neither side knew what to do with one another, it was like a really bad blind date." He took a hiatus for 4 years before returning with the album Karma Lounge, then followed it with Tales Of Lazy Wednesdays. Various smaller projects conveyed after including an instrumental album, and The Rock Island Sessions EP, which held acoustic versions of previous fan favorites(the EP would go on to hold the number one spot on iTunes Originals for eight weeks after one of the tracks was used in a Japanese automobile commercial). He dabbled in acting, radio, and podcasting before going silent for a decade. In 2021, he was inducted into the IMA Songwriters Hall of Fame.
He has written over 300 songs, recorded five full length albums, various EP's, produced and performed score for television and various film works, as well as currently working on a "book-of-sorts" currently slated to be released late 2023. He is an avid photographer, and sketches visuals to his favorite classic song lyrics. His art has been showcased in several galleries in the Nashville area.
Little Incredible Life will be available summer '23 worldwide wherever music is sold, and a lead off single is planned for February. He is also writing a book of insights on his music, poems, and lyrics with journaled stories of his small town life. He lives in the Historic West District of Cookeville, a college town located east of Nashville, TN. When asked what he'd been up to the last decade, the always quotable Travis resounded in a howl of laughter, "Just making a big, fat fool of myself!"
